Well its the 1st May 2001 and the "Eagle Has Landed" so to speak.

I have been on edge all day as Pat my wife, phoned me up at work in the morning to tell me the owner of the Spitfire 1500 we looked at on the previous Sunday, had just phoned to say he would take the offer I made on the car after all. This was excellent news as he had originally turned me down.

I phoned him up and he agreed to bring the car over from Sunderland to Ryton where I live, he said his mate would tow the car over. The Spitfire has an MOT but has been standing for quite a while and I hadn't even heard the engine running, although the owner assured me that it did.

By about 4.30 Pat had not phoned me to say the car had been delivered, I phoned the owner and was told by his mother that the car was on its way. I got home at about 6.00, no sign of the car. I phoned the owner again, the cars on its way his Mother said.

Just before 7.00 the phone went and the owner said he was outside my step daughters house, Pat and I rushed round to her house, and there it was, sitting outside the house with the engine ticking over!!. As it was a glorious sunny day he had driven! the car over. I didn't believe him when we were looking over the car on the Sunday, when he said it was a runner. But blow me there it was engine running, sitting out side its new temporary home.

Here are a few pic's of the car, click on a pic for a larger one in a separate window.
